This one hour documentary DVD production is presented as a 12,500 kilometre journey through Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. The trains of the most northerly countries of Western Europe are shown in the wonderful scenic setting through which they run. Freight train are included as well as a wide selection of passenger services and there are visits to railway museums and centres of steam preservation.
The journey begins and ends in Esbjerg on the Danish North Sea coast. Two steam centres are visited on the northward course to Norway via Hirtshals and Kristiansand. All the main routes in Norway and Sweden are shown as we zigzag from one country to the other. Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Lulea and Narvik are all visited as the journey takes you into Lapland and north of the Arctic Circle.
The return journey is through Finland to the capital city of Helsinki where we take the ferry to Stockholm. The railways and steam centres of southern Sweden are visited before returning to Denmark and the capital city of Copenhagen.
This is an immensely varied journey through exciting and at times, untamed landscape. Distances are vast and the beauty of the scenery is breathtaking. Whatever your railway or travel interests are, 'The Railways of Scandinavia' will provide a marvellous insight into railway operation in the Nordic lands.
